"Sumshchyna" Postage Block, "Cities of Heroes" Series!
What is depicted on the "Cities of Heroes. Sumshchyna" stamp series? When the border towns of the Sumy region first met the fiery gale of the Russian invasion at dawn on February 24, 2022, they did not bow; instead, they transformed into an iron bastion of Ukrainian will. This postage block is a visual chronicle of the struggle, where every postage stamp breathes the history of true heroes. For those captivated by philately, this issue will become a crown jewel of their assembly, as the collecting of such artifacts preserves the memory of the nation’s feat. Such a block is an ideal gift for a patriot—a true symbol of resilience that will grace any album.
Architectural Symbols of Bravery on Postage Stamps Artist Oleksandra Kalmykova has masterfully intertwined the peaceful beauty and military valor of the cities that received the "City-Hero of Ukraine" honorary distinction in 2025:
Unbreakable Sumy (Stamp No. 2225): The building of Sumy State University rises proudly on the stamp. It is not merely an educational institution, but a symbol of the intellectual might of a city that, together with Territorial Defense units, organized active resistance. Thousands of volunteers took up arms and blocked enemy columns, preventing the invaders from ruling their streets.
Heroic Trostyanets (Stamp No. 2226): The "Kruhlyi Dvir" (Round Yard) captures the eye—a unique landmark that survived the horrors of a 31-day occupation. Despite the occupiers' atrocities, the townspeople acted as a single organism: transmitting intelligence to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, organizing evacuations, and providing medicine to those trapped. Thanks to this steadfastness, the enemy left the Sumy region for good in April 2022.
Technical Excellence of the Sumy Stamps This issue is an object of high artistic value, created with absolute attention to detail:
