On the night of March 26-27, 2022, residents of Okhtyrka experienced the first peaceful day since the beginning of aggression by Russian troops. However, the very next day, the active phase of the city's defense in Sumy region ended. The battles for Okhtyrka became a symbol of heroism and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
Restoration and Honorable Mention
After the end of active hostilities, the important work of demining the territory and restoring damaged buildings and infrastructure began. By decree of the President of Ukraine, Okhtyrka was awarded the honorary title "Hero City of Ukraine" for mass heroism and steadfastness in the defense of the city.
