The beginning of the 20th century in Europe was
marked by the First World War and numerous local military conflicts. Ukrainian
territories did not miss these sad events.
The Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1921 is a series of
events connected with the national liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people
for independence.
The impetus for the Ukrainian revolution was the
February revolution in the Russian Empire. During this period, Ukraine created
its own self-governing body - the Ukrainian Central Council. Mykhailo
Hrushevskyi headed the state at that time.
From 1917 to 1921, there was a constant armed conflict for the right to exist of the Ukrainian state. The Ukrainian state formed military units that fought the enemy on different front lines.

The series of stamps "Armed Formations of the
Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921" was launched as a joint project of the Ukrainian Post Office and the Ukrainian
Institute of National Remembrance to preserve the memory and honor all those
who died in the struggle for Ukrainian statehood.
The series was launched on June 2019, in honor of
the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian Revolution. The artist and painter
Valery Rudenko became the author of the stamp sketches.
