"Easter Eggs" series of 9 standard stamps."

The cultural heritage of Ukraine includes a very large number of attributes. This includes not only paintings but also unique works of folk art. Easter eggs are no exception and have their roots in the pagan period. Like most customs and rituals, they carry a deep informational meaning. The egg is considered a symbol of spring with the awakening of nature, the birth of life and procreation.

Considering the importance of Easter eggs, they were decorated with various magical symbols. The purpose was to create a special amulet. Through the passage of time and the change of traditions, such symbols have been fixed as an ornament (despite the technique of their application). Traditional patterns can be easily distinguished depending on the region where they were discovered and used.

Artistic Easter eggs as an element of cultural heritage

Philately has always been closely intertwined with history and culture. That is why most stamp issues are dedicated to the memory of traditions and cultural features. Ukrposhta is extremely responsible and carefully selects the topics of postage stamp issues.

Despite the events of the war, which first hit Ukraine in 2014 in the east of the country and the full-scale invasion 8 years later in 2022, the strength and power of the Ukrainian people cannot be destroyed. The country continues to work, and Ukrposhta's philatelic issues only emphasize the distinctiveness of the genetic code.

Since standard issues have multimillion-dollar circulations, the designs for such stamps should reflect Ukrainian culture. Therefore, the choice of Easter eggs is appropriate in this case and fully emphasizes the cultural heritage.

Easter eggs standard stamps 2023

The announcement of the issue of standard stamps with Easter eggs took place in April. Traditionally, Ukrposhta used a modern means of communication in the form of social media. Since Easter eggs are part of the Easter ritual, the announcement was made on the eve of Easter.

·         Start date of the sale: 21.04.2023

·         Number of stamps per sheet: 99 (9х11)

·         Denomination H: 1 million copies.

·         T denomination: 3.5 million copies.

·         Stamp size: 22x24.48 mm

·         Author of the stamp sketch - Natalia Andriychenko

It should be noted that this is the second issue of standard stamps with Easter eggs. The first one was issued in September 2022. The issue is presented in two denominations:

·         Ivano-Frankivsk region, Trostianets village, H denomination - presented in yellow colors according to the template developed for the series. In the center is an Easter egg with a special painting, which is inherent in the geographical reference of Pokuttya. The stamp's affiliation with all the inscriptions is spaced along the edges of the postage stamp. The painting is based on geometric and floral patterns of simple shapes with a dominant brown ground color and a white border.

·         The Hutsul region of the T denomination is a local peculiarity characterized by more complex patterns. As for the color, black background and various shades of green decoration prevail. The peculiarity of the painting is not only the use of small geometric shapes, but also animalistic motifs.

In August 2023, Ukrposhta issued three more stamps with the image of Easter eggs for payment of general postal services. This time the author of the images was the artist Nataliya Kohal. The stamps were put into circulation on September 12, 2023. The series was replenished with stamps of the following denominations: L - Odesa region. F - Volyn region. X - Chernivtsi region. The circulation of each stamp was 1,000,000 copies.

Other issues of Ukrposhta stamps with the image of Easter eggs

Among other stamps featuring Easter eggs, you can find stamps dedicated to the Easter holiday:

·         1993 - an Easter stamp with a plate with Easter eggs of different colors near the Easter cakes. The detailing is quite small and does not imply the visibility of the ornament used.

·         2008 - "Easter - Christ is Risen" stamp, where the sketch is based on the shape of an egg. However, the stamp does not provide for the use of thematic regional paintings.

·         2000 - a small sheet of Easter eggs featuring six Easter eggs from different regions of Ukraine (Odesa, Chernihiv, Volyn, Podillia, Kyiv, and Hutsul).

·         2002 - Chernivtsi region stamp, which depicts Easter eggs with a painting typical for this region.

·         2013 - the Easter egg stamp, with a sketch that traditionally features Easter cakes and Easter eggs.
