The series of stamps of the underground postal service of Ukraine, dedicated to Oleg Olzhych, was printed in 1962 to mark the 19th anniversary of his heroic death. The total circulation was approximately 400 series, which makes these stamps exceptionally rare. Each stamp has a denomination of 25 shahy and is printed on glossy paper.
The series includes 10 color variations:
Blue-red
Light blue–red
Green-brown
Blue-yellow
Yellow-black
Purple-orange
Gray-pink
Red-black
Olive green
Deep red
At the center of each stamp is a portrait of Oleg Olzhych (1907–1944), a figure of extraordinary strength of spirit. He was not only a poet and scholar, but also an active fighter for Ukraine’s independence and one of the leaders of the national movement. His life became an example of self-sacrifice: even in the inhumane conditions of the Nazi Sachsenhausen concentration camp, he did not renounce his beliefs and met death with dignity, remaining a symbol of resilience and honor.
This presented series of underground postal stamps is not merely a philatelic issue, but a kind of monument to courage. It preserves the image of a man who chose to fight to the end and proved that even in darkness one can remain a light for one’s people.
