Spiritual leaders of the Ukrainian church series of stamps Underground Post of Ukraine 1952
The series of stamps "Leaders of the Ukrainian Church," issued by the Ukrainian Underground Post (UUP), is dedicated to prominent spiritual leaders who played a crucial role in preserving Ukrainian religious and national traditions during the communist repressions. The UUP recognized the significant role the church had in the spiritual life of Ukrainians, making this issue a key part of its philatelic collection.
Released in 1952, the series consists of stamps featuring portraits of distinguished figures of the Ukrainian Church, such as Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, Patriarch Josyf Slipyj, Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivsky, Archbishop Mykola Boretsky, Bishop Yuriy Zhevchenko, and Bishop Theodore Romzha, all of whom suffered from communist persecution for their faith and activities.
The design of the series was created by the talented artist L. Rykhtytsky. The series was issued with a print run of 6,000 perforated stamps and 600 imperforated stamps, each with a denomination of 25 shahs. This release is part of a broader series of UUP stamps dedicated to the Ukrainian clergy and its role in the history of the Ukrainian nation.
