Metropolitan Joseph VII series of diaspora stamps Cleveland 1973.

The stamps were issued by the publishing house of the Society "For the Patriarchal Institution of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Orthodox Church" in the USA. Joseph the Blind

Metropolitan Joseph VII, also known as Joseph the Blind, was born in 1892. He was a church and public figure, teacher, theologian, patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from 1975 to 1984. Joseph the Blind was also a cardinal from 1965. Known as the leader of the anti-Bolshevik church movement in the USSR, he founded the Catacomb Church, which opposed the communist regime. In 1963, he was released from prison under the condition of exile to Rome, as agreed between the Vatican and the Soviet authorities. Joseph the Blind is known for his dedication and defense of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, even during difficult periods in the history of Ukraine. His contribution to the religious and social life of Ukraine leaves an immortal mark in the history of the country.
