The 10th anniversary of the Battle of Brody - a series of postage stamps

In 1954, in the heart of post-war Europe, the administration of the Brotherhood of Soldiers of the Halychyna Division issued a series of commemorative stamps to commemorate the 10th anniversary of one of the most heroic episodes in recent Ukrainian history — the Battle of Brody. This place became a battlefield, where Ukrainian soldiers engaged in a fierce confrontation with the Red Army, defending not only their ideals, but also their memory, dignity and the right to be a part of their history.

The series of rare stamps is particularly striking and interesting, with four stamps depicting battle scenes with the Red Army as well as the divisional coat of arms. Stamps are multi-colored and have the following denominations:

10 steps: green-yellow

20 steps: green-blue

30 steps: brown-green color

40 steps: green-gray

The circulation of stamps with teeth was 9,000 series, without teeth – 1,000 series. Although this is a rather large circulation for Ukrainian stamps of the Underground Post, today this series is rare among collectors.

The battle near Brody in July 1944 left an unforgettable mark. In the difficult environment in Western Ukraine, thousands of fighters of the "Halychyna" division tried to break out of the ring, save their strength and avoid destruction. In this battle, thousands of soldiers sacrificed their lives, but for those who survived, this event became a symbol of indomitable struggle, an example of dedication and sacrifice in the name of the native land.

The Brotherhood of Soldiers of the Halychyna Division is a combatant organization that united veterans of the 1st Ukrainian Division of the Ukrainian National Army, also known as the Halychyna Division. Loyal to their country and the memory of their fellow men, these people considered it their duty to preserve and pass on to posterity the memories of those heroic days. The organization maintained contact between veterans and actively worked to restore and preserve Ukrainian military traditions, which later became the foundation for future generations.

Stamps of this series attract attention not only for their rarity, but also for their symbolism. They are filled with a mood of remembrance and gratitude. Each of them reproduces a battle scene, a fragment of history, where the military spirit is combined with a sense of national identity. The central element of the stamps is the coat of arms of the division, a symbol embodying the hope and patriotism that united Ukrainian soldiers.

The Underground Post dedicated quite a large number of issues of its stamps to the events near Brody. Stamps dedicated to this memorable date are interesting and unusual.
