In 2026, the European community celebrates a momentous, deeply symbolic date — the 70th anniversary of the founding and first issue of the EUROPA stamp series. Initiated in 1956 by the six founding countries of the European Coal and Steel Community, this initiative aimed to stitch together a continent devastated by the Second World War with the threads of culture, communication, and a shared identity. The postage stamp, this tiny paper messenger, became the first ambassador of a new, united Europe, which proclaimed peace, mutual respect, and solidarity as its core values. Over seven decades, EUROPA stamps have told the world about shared heritage, forests, rivers, national instruments, fairy tales, and scientific discoveries, proving that diversity is our continent's greatest wealth.

However, today, in the third decade of the 21st century, the phrase "United in..." takes on a deeply tragic yet majestic resonance for Ukraine and the entire free world. For the Ukrainian people, the path to the European family is washed not only with the ink of diplomatic agreements but also with the blood of defenders on the front lines. At a time when European capitals enjoy peaceful skies, Ukraine stands as a wall at the eastern outpost of civilization, defending the very essence of European values from the destructive invasion of tyranny. This issue is not merely a celebration of a philatelic series anniversary; it is a dramatic reminder of the high price paid for the right to be part of a free European space.

Seventy years of postal brotherhood under the auspices of EUROPA are today being tested for endurance in the fires of war. Every letter sent with these stamps beyond Ukraine's borders becomes a quiet manifesto of our belonging to a single civilizational space, a testament that the Ukrainian soul has always striven for the light of freedom and humanism.

The tragedy of the modern era is woven into the visual canvas of the anniversary. We see how the idea of unity, which once originated on the ashes of the mid-last century, is once again forced to be reborn through the pain and destruction of the present. Ukraine, confidently holding its flag alongside the flags of other European states, demonstrates to the world that unity is not just a slogan; it is a daily struggle for survival, for the preservation of culture, for the right of every child to fall asleep without the fear of night bombardments. It is this existential dimension that gives the anniversary issue special weight, transforming ordinary postage signs into historical documents of invincibility and faith.

The anniversary issue is represented by two unique stamp sheets, each offering its own original artistic vision of the idea of unity and historical memory. The designers masterfully combined avant-garde graphic modernism with classic symbols of European peace.

• The first stamp sheet (with "W" denomination stamps) impresses with its bright, expressive geometry. The composition is built on the interplay of diagonal stripes in gray, yellow, red, and orange, which cross the space of the sheet, creating a dynamic effect of movement and intersections. The stamps themselves feature a complex abstract pattern of tiny dots and lines, symbolizing the intricate social and cultural network of modern Europe. The key artistic element here is a diagonal white line strung with perfectly round white bead-knots. This image is associated with a chain of communication, telegraph wires, or the molecular structure of the shared DNA of European nations. Each stamp with the W denomination (intended for international mail) carries a message about expanding borders, overcoming isolation, and striving for global dialogue, regardless of any obstacles.

• The second stamp sheet (with "A" denomination stamps) is more lyrical but simultaneously carries a deep internal drama. The artistic resolution of this sheet appeals to the eternal symbols of European civilization and peace. The stamps depict the majestic silhouettes of legendary European architectural landmarks — specifically, the recognizable outlines of Notre-Dame de Paris and the Big Ben clock tower (Elizabeth Tower) in London. These temples of culture and history tower over the world as outposts of the spirit that have survived centuries of cataclysms. The space of the stamps is broken by the silhouettes of white doves — the classic symbols of peace. The birds are depicted in flight, their wings overlapping the architectural silhouettes, creating a sense of lightness, hope, and at the same time, anxiety for this fragile peace. The warm yellow background embodies sunlight, while the dark blue stripe at the bottom, studded with golden stars, refers the viewer to the flag of the European Union. The inscription "70 years of EUROPA stamps" in the lower right corner of each stamp is executed in a strict, solemn style.

The color palette of both sheets is complemented by technological printing markers on the margins (colored circles of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), emphasizing the modernity of the typographic execution. The margins of the sheets feature the "EUROPA" logo, the issue title in two languages, and the official marking of the publisher — JSC "Ukrposhta".
