Postal block for the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hryhoriy Skovoroda

The full postal block name is " To the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hryhorii Skovoroda. Garden of Divine songs"

Hryhorii Skovoroda was born in Kharkiv region on November 22, 1722. Famous to contemporaries as an outstanding philosopher, theologian, poet and teacher.  The fundamental philosophical idea that the artist conveyed to his descendants says that the kingdom of man is inside him. During his lifetime, Hryhorii Skovoroda traveled a lot and created and taught.  Skovoroda's creativity had a significant impact on his contemporaries and subsequent generations of artists and cultural figures. 

"Garden of Divine Songs" - one of the well-known poetry collections of the author on religious and philosophical topics.  

The postal block "Garden of Divine Songs" honors the outstanding philosopher and his activities in the development of Ukrainian culture.

The postal block comprises two stamps. The famous picture of the artist - fountain with the inscription "Unequal Equality for All" is printed on one stamp.  The image of this fountain was on the banknotes of the Ukrainian People's Republic of 1918-1921, and is also present on modern Ukrainian banknotes.

Another stamp of the block has a portrait of Hryhorii Skovoroda.

The nominal value of the first stamp is 15 UAH + 15 UAH. It includes the amount of 15 UAH to pay for postal services and a charitable contribution of 15 UAH for the restoration of the historical museum in the village of Skovorodynivka.

Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum building is a historic 18th century building where the artist spent the last years of his life. It was destroyed as a result of a rocket attack by Russian troops in May 2022.

For the restoration of the museum, Ukrposhta is planning to collect 7.5 million hryvnias.

The nominal value of the second stamp with the portrait of the philosopher is 45 UAH.

Thus, the total price of the postal block is 75 UAH.

For the day of putting the postal product into circulation, a special envelope and postmark have been developed.

The special cancellation of the envelope took place simultaneously in three places.

In the capital of Ukraine Kyiv, in the village of Skovorodynivka in Kharkiv region on the site of the destroyed museum and in New York USA.

Curiously, the ceremony took place in New York during the visit of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska to the Ukrainian Museum. It was here that an event dedicated to drawing attention to russia's war crimes against the cultural heritage of Ukraine was held.
